Common uses

Project planningHow many working days until the deadline?
Contract durationHow many days between signing and expiry?
Event planningHow many days until the wedding or trip?
Financial periodsHow many business days in a quarter?

What counts as a working day?

Working days are Monday through Friday. The calculator does not exclude public holidays as these vary by country β€” subtract any holidays in the range manually for a precise business day count.

Does the order of dates matter?

No β€” the calculator always returns a positive number regardless of which date comes first.

Does it work offline?

Yes. All calculations run locally in your browser β€” no data is sent to a server. Once the page has loaded, the calculator works without an internet connection. Use it on a plane, in the underground, or anywhere with no signal. Nothing you enter is stored or shared.

When is a date difference calculator useful?

Counting days between dates comes up more often than you'd think. Common real-world uses include calculating your notice period when resigning from a job, checking visa validity duration, finding the number of working days in a billing cycle, verifying loan tenure in days, tracking how many days remain in a fixed deposit, or simply planning how many days until a trip or event. The working days toggle makes it especially useful for HR, finance and legal professionals who need to exclude weekends from their counts.

How to Count Days Between Two Dates

Counting the exact number of days between two dates is useful in more situations than you might expect β€” calculating notice periods, checking visa validity, working out loan durations, tracking project timelines, or simply finding out how long ago something happened. The difference between calendar days and working days also matters: a 30-day notice period starting on a Monday includes weekends, but a 30-working-day notice period does not.

Calendar Days vs Working Days β€” What's the Difference?

Calendar days count every day including weekends and public holidays. Working days (also called business days) count only Monday to Friday, excluding weekends. Some calculations exclude public holidays too. Employment contracts, visa rules, and financial agreements often specify which type applies β€” always check before assuming. A 14-calendar-day deadline and a 14-working-day deadline can differ by up to 4–6 days.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the count include the start date and end date?

By default, the calculator counts from the start date up to but not including the end date β€” the standard mathematical difference. If your use case requires including both dates (common in legal and employment contexts), add 1 to the result.

How are working days calculated?

Working days count Monday to Friday only, excluding Saturdays and Sundays. Public holidays are not automatically excluded as these vary by country and region. If your calculation requires excluding specific holidays, subtract them manually from the working days result.

Can I calculate dates across different years?

Yes β€” there is no restriction on the date range. The calculator correctly handles leap years (February 29) and multi-year spans. You can calculate the number of days between any two dates in the past, present, or future.

How many working days are in a year?

A standard year has 365 calendar days. Excluding 52 weekends (104 days) leaves approximately 261 working days. After deducting public holidays β€” which vary from 8 (US federal) to 25+ (some European countries) β€” most workers have between 230 and 253 actual working days per year.

Results are based on the Gregorian calendar. Working day calculations exclude weekends only β€” public holidays vary by country and are not automatically deducted.
